We’ve powered up 2.2 MW of solar panels across businesses, homes, and farms in the Western Cape — and we’re just getting started!

About

Born out of the load-shedding crisis that stared in 2020, Blackout Solar & Power Solutions began with one clear goal, to offer honest, reliable, and high-quality solar energy solutions that help South Africans take control of their power.

We’re a 100% locally owned company built on four timeless principles:

  1. Hands-On Ownership – Our owners are involved in every project, ensuring personal accountability and quality.
  2. Attention to Detail – Every installation is treated like it’s our own, combining performance with craftsmanship.
  3. Specialised Agricultural & Commercial Focus – We understand the power demands of farms, packhouses, and businesses.
  4. Quality Assurance – We only use premium brands backed by strong warranties and support.

As a Sunsynk Master Installer and proud member of SESSA (Sustainable Energy Society of South Africa), we uphold the highest standards of safety, precision, and service.

Our systems are designed to:

  • Reduce your electricity costs by up to 80% and/ or become energy independent
  • Increase energy independence with battery storage options
  • Futureproof your business or farm against rising tariffs
  • Lower your carbon footprint and environmental impact

Whether you’re irrigating fields in the Boland, powering a pack-house in Namaqualand, keeping the lights on at home, or running a commercial operation in the Cape Winelands, Blackout Solar & Power Solutions delivers solar systems that perform, rain or shine.

Because when it comes to powering South Africa’s future, we don’t just install solar, we install peace of mind.

What Is Solar Power?

S
olar power backup systems provide reliable energy during outages by charging batteries while grid power is available and automatically switching to battery power during outages. This seamless transition allows homes and businesses to continue operating without interruption. Once grid power is restored, the system recharges the batteries.

In contrast, an off-grid solar system operates independently from the grid, relying entirely on solar energy and battery storage. It is ideal for remote locations or those seeking total energy independence, as it generates electricity from sunlight and stores it for use during non-sunny periods.

Both systems require careful planning based on energy needs.

Interesting Info

T
he distance from which the Earth orbits the Sun is the ‘Goldilocks’ zone. Our planet system is the solar system’s sweet spot and for recorded history, ours has not only been associated with power and strength but has been an object of divine reverence.

We’re woken up in the 21 century, albeit slowly, to Thomas Edison’s 1931 prediction: “I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until coal and oil run out before we tackle that”.

When you consider that three to four minutes of solar energy is enough to power the world for a full day, (notwithstanding the challenges of efficiency and storage), the question is why are we not harvesting more of this omnipresent natural and sustainable resource?

And why are we still eyeing undiscovered oil and vast gas reserves in places such as the Arctic – an ecological disaster in the making if drilling goes wrong?
